In prior episodes of PressThis, we have taken a surface look at the back-end function of popular e-Commerce plugins. Now, we find ourselves pitting WooCommerce against WP e-Commerce against Jigoshop against MarketPress in the category of eCommerce eCosystems.

What is an eCommerce eCosystem you ask? Essentially, it is the platform you buy into when you choose one of the above plugins for your WordPress-powered website. Whether it be the pay as you go model of a WooCommerce or the pay per month services of MarketPress, choosing a plugin is more than just installation and use.

  1. Love the video. Hey random question without doing any research. I am an artist and plan on having downloadable PDFs for sale and maybe a few t-shirts later on. What would be your guys suggestion. Almost no budget atm hence the downloadable PDFs but wouldn't mind moving to something else more cost effective if it actually kicks off.

Pre-thanks and again love the video.

  2. Setting up good looking wordpress websites is a time consuming task especially for newbies unless you are an expert web designer and not many of us are And that's why I created a must-watch training on wordpress, which will teach you how to transform your wordpress website into a serious marketing machine. You can watch a sample video from this training on my channel.

  3. I am getting ready to launch an ecommerce site with MarketPress. The reason we are going with Marketpress is the compatibility with Multisite. I am just wondering what your take on the negative press about WPMU DEV is? A quick google search shows a lot of unhappy customers with their complaints ranging from a lack of support to plugins simply not working. Is this something to be concerned about?

  4. I think if you're not going to scale up past those 10 you could still get a way with using Woo – unless you don't want the weight of styling a store etc.

Perhaps you could try Gravity forms with PayPal integration. We reviewed it as a contact form in a previous episode. Let us know how you make out!

  5. That's a great question. I think you would be looking more at scaling your actual WordPress site when you hit that size. Caching, cleaner code, light weight theme etc.

I don't think Woo will have an issue running that many products – as long as you can manage that many via the WordPress interface. Let us know how you make out!

  6. Hi guys.I love your videos… you give some great insights into these plugins. I am about to open an ecommerce store and I'm tending toward woocommerce. I'd like to know though, how scalable is woocommerce in terms of its growth potential to handle thousands of products as I intend to have a online only store and really want to not have to change because it can't handle the load of a fully slated ecommerce machine. I prefer woo as it is easier to use compared 2 dedicated platforms like magento

  7. For simple, simple, simple and paypal integration, Try E-junkie. Its a monthly service, but it is really easy to use. And if you only have 10 items, you'll only pay $5 a month.

AND its a service so you can copy/paste your "buy now" button code anywhere online like your own site, facebook, forums or what ever. I hope this helps.

I have been using it for about 3 years to sell digital and real products. I like it.

  8. WP/website beginner. At this stage of creating my web site, my intent is to only use PayPal. Simple, simple. Free shipping. No extensions. 10 products. What is your recommendation for an ecosystem going forward? Thanks for your reply, in advance.
